SENDIASS stands for Special Educational Needs and Disabilities Information Advice and Support Service.
This is the SENDIASS service for people living in Hull.
It’s a free, impartial, and confidential service offering information to young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) and to their parents and carers.
Who is it for?
Families of young people aged 0 – 25 with special educational needs and disabilities. The service is open to parents and carers, and to young people themselves.
When does it run?
We are open Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.00pm.

What we do
Hull SENDIASS provides legally-based information, advice and support relating to Education, Health and Social Care for families of children and young people aged 0-25 who live in Hull.
We empower parents/carers and young people to understand their rights and to be confident when making informed decisions and advocating for their child with SEND or for themselves.
What is a SENDIAS Service?
SEND IAS Services are:
- Statutory: every locality must have a SEND IAS Service under the IASS Minimum Standards
- Free: you will never be expected to pay for this service
- Confidential: we will not share what we talk about with others unless given permission
- Impartial: we do not take sides and are ‘at arm’s length’ from all organisations and the Local Authority
You do not need a diagnosis or Education, Health & Care Plan to access a SEND IAS Service.
Information & Advice
Our independently trained staff provide telephone information, advice and support on:
- Your rights associated with SEND law and legislation
- Navigating local policy and the Hull Local Offer
- Guidance on processes (such as EHC needs assessments, appeals and tribunals)
- Information on relevant organisation’s processes for resolving disagreements, complaints and means of redress
- Signposting to additional sources of local and national information, advice and support
Further Support
We can also take a referral for specific and focused casework to support or represent you in meetings with professionals, in mediations and at tribunals.
We can provide support in understanding and completing certain assessment, review and complaints paperwork through our drop-in sessions.
Hull SENDIASS is available to professionals for information and advice when working with families of children with SEND as well.
Young People
The Children & Families Act 2014 states that young people have the right to get information, advice and support for themselves. Hull SENDIASS work with young people aged 16-25 who need extra help because of special educational needs and/or a disability.
We can support by:
- Providing information, advice and support to you (and if you choose, your parents/carers) on SEND issues relating to education, health and social care
- Ensuring the information, advice and support is accessible and meaningful to you
- Empowering you to navigate and coordinate provision of services and support while being a single point of contact and support
- Encouraging self-advocacy and ensuring that you can participate fully in the decisions that affect your life

Training Offer
We have developed a training offer, specifically designed for parents within Hull, to increase knowledge of SEND laws, guidance, local policy, issues and participation.
Our training offer is delivered across:
- Face to face and online sessions, either at the Kids Yorkshire office in Hull or via MS Teams
- Online webinar videos available on the Kids SEND Information Advice and Support Service YouTube channel
- Short videos posted on social media.

Mediation is a free dispute resolution service for families who disagree with a decision that the local authority has made. Hull’s SEND Mediation is provided by Community Accord.

Our SENDIAS services strive for the highest quality. The government publishes Minimum Standards for SENDIASS. Kids aims to meet and exceed those standards in all our work. Our staff are all highly experienced and knowledgeable. They receive regular training and updates on all aspects of SEND policy and law and have a detailed knowledge of Hull education services so they can advise you on your family’s rights and options.
