Andrew’s half marathon triumph

Andrew, a waking night practitioner at Russell House, recently completed his first Bath Half Marathon to support young people with SEND.

At Kids, we’re always amazed by the dedication of our team, not just in their day-to-day work but in the incredible personal challenges they take on to support the young people we work with.

One of those inspiring individuals is Andrew, a waking night practitioner at Russell House, who recently completed his very first Bath Half Marathon!

Challenge accepted

Andrew is part of our Russel House team, working through the night to support young people. But outside of work, he set himself a completely different kind of challenge: running 13.1 miles to raise funds for the Russell House garden project.

To begin with, he wasn’t sure if it would be a good idea, as he has a pacemaker. But with the help of his family and the staff at Russel House, he decided to buy a treadmill and start training day by day.

From training to race day

Andrew completed the half marathon with an incredible time of 3:17:44, smashing his original goal of 4:10:30, and had an amazing experience every step of the way!

“The crowds, the energy, and finally reaching that finish line was an unforgettable incredible feeling. Every mile was a mental and physical battle, but I kept putting one foot in front of the other. Finally, I saw the finish line, and the rush of adrenaline carried me through and yes, I admit that I even had a few tears at the end. The best thing is that I am now a half-marathon finisher!”

Fundraising for Russell House garden project

Andrew took on this challenge not just for personal achievement but to raise funds for the Russell House garden project. The aim of the project is to redesign the garden area, making it more accessible and user friendly for all young people.

His determination and resilience are truly inspiring, and we couldn’t be prouder of him.
